I had a similar problem with a motorhome several years ago and ended up having to push the van to start it or park it on a hill. I ended up removing the battery and engine earth straps, cleaning the terminals coating the terminals with petroleum jelly and refitting them, that sorted out the problem.
Apr 12, 2007. #7. Hi, I have had the exact same problem and traced it to the throttle position sensor. This is the unit on the back of the throttle which is 'fly by wire' as there is no throttle cable. This is quite common and the was finally detected by a Fiat dealer who, without charge, plugged in a diagnostic computer.Having spent a day trying to find the problem I can rule out starter motor as on removing it and checking; it runs fine. Seems no power signal is getting from the ecu to the solenoid. Ignition switch seems OK turning it energises the various relays but nothing to the solenoid.
6. Press the accelerator pedal till the diagnostic light switch off (around 4 secs) 7. Do stages 6 and 7 for each number of the security code. 8. Once you have released the pedal accelerator for the last number if the light. switch off or flash for 4 seconds, the procedure is a success and the engine can. be started.
8) Hi, This is well known problem with the Ducato and is documented on this site somewhere. I thought it was one batch of vehicles in mid 2003. I have a Timberland 2003 ducato that I had completely resprayed last year. The roof was rusty and and the rest of the van was not much better. It was a silver one. Studley, Warwickshire. Several owners of Fiat Ducato 2.5 TD appear to be having problems with starting due to glow-plug module (Bitron Video 2044029) failure. I have dispensed with mine altogether by substituting a HD relay in it's place controlled by a push button. Work very well - modification cost about £25.00 and a couple of hours work.
